Dear visitor!

We are glad to greet you on our renewed server of Poltava State Agrarian Academy! The period of completing is going on, that is why, perhaps, some sections will not be accessible, there may be found some mistakes, therefore we ask you to excuse us in advance.

And now what the site is devoted to. First, certainly, we want to inform wide audience of users about our existence, and in this way to contribute to development of the Ukrainian Internet, and we are not those, who determine the value of the contribution. Secondly, to provide some ideas and some resources, which may be useful. Third, there is a wish to arrange the site in a form of sluice and fulcrum for academy’s users, it means some sections will bear information designed for local users. Fourth, it is time to take out agriculture to the Internet, to till virgin lands of nets with our ploughs. So step-by-step we shall put our plans concerning organization of consulting centre on problems of agriculture, guide on pesticides and so on… into life, everything will depend on health of organizers of the project and financing activity.

Rector of Poltava State Agrarian Academy Pysarenko Victor Mykytovych

Victor Mykytovych was born in a farmer’s family in Mykolayivshchina-lands. In 1970 he had obtained the qualification of scientist-agronomist and until 1972 he used to work as a chief agronomist. In 1976 he upheld the candidate’s thesis and worked as junior, senior researcher, and then as a head of entomology laboratory. Since 1982 he worked as a head of plants department. In 1985 he upheld the Doctor’s thesis. Since 1990 in Poltava State Agrarian Academy V.M. Pysarenko has been working as a professor of botanic chair, since 1991 – as a head of the sub-faculty of ecology and botany, and since 1996 – as a rector. Besides the administrative activity, Victor Mykytovych is busy with creative pedagogical, scientific and civil activities. He is managing the sub-faculty of ecology and botany, he is a member of coordinating commission on the problem of plants protection from vermin and diseases. Since 1995 he was awarded the title “Honored worker of science and technique of Ukraine” and was chosen as a full member (academician) of Ukrainian Ecological Academy of Science. V.M. Pysarenko has more than 160 scientific works, is an author of 6 textbooks and training aids.


The History of the Academy

In September-October 1920 at the faculty, where 21 teachers were working, 49 students started their studies. There were the following sections: stock-breeding, plant production, horticulture with vegetable growing.
The date of establishing of that faculty is regarded as a date of the foundation of the high agricultural institution in Poltava.
In October 1921 on the basis of agricultural faculty of workers’ high school the agricultural technical school was created.
With times the cooperative technical school and professional school of horticultural crops joined the agricultural technical school. Since October 1923 it was called agrocooperative technical school and since 1926-1927 academic years – Poltava agricultural polytechnic, which in October 1929 was reorganized into agricultural institute.
Before World War II started the institute was well-equipped and enough important educational institution.
World War II stopped the creative work of teachers and students, most of whom in the first days of the war joined the Soviet Army.
The lecturers of the essential chairs and students of senior courses evacuated to Kurgan-city, where they were working until February 1944. After that a small group of co-workers came back to Poltava and the institute started its work again.
During the years of being the high educational institution more than 22,5 thousand of highly skilled specialists of agricultural industrial complex had been trained.
In different years the institute as an educational institution was headed by Y.L. Rekalo (1920-1925), V.P. Chugai (1925-1928), F.G. Pomalenky (1928-1931), I.P. Khoruzhenko (1931-1932), I.V. Serdyuk (1932-1937), Ê.Ê. Shchanin (1937-1938), S.K. Andrushchenko (1938-1939), À.F. Tolmachov (1939-1940), S. F. Videnin (1940-1951), P.N. Vantsak (1951-1962), M.Î. Dobrovolsky (1962-1963), V.Î. Ivashchenko (1963-1968), Ì.Î. Dobrovolsky (1968-1988), Î.Ì. Kutsenko (1988-1996).
Since the 9th of October 1996 Victor Mykytovych Pysarenko has been the rector, he is the Doctor of agricultural sciences, professor, academician of the Ukrainian Ecological Academy of Sciences (see “Rector’s page”).

On 23rd July the institute was reorganized into the Agrarian Academy.

Academy Today

Today students’ training is going on according to the degree system – bachelor, specialist, master – corresponding to the licenses of the specialities: 8.050106 "Accounting and Auditing", 8.050201 "Management of Organizations", 8.130102 "Agronomy", 8.130201 "Zoo-engineering", 8.130501 "Veterinary Medicine", 7.091902 "Mechanization of Agriculture", 6.050100 "Finances" with the general licensed range of 450 persons.
5 training departments of 6 have the ²V level of accreditation, it makes 83,3%. On the 1st September 2002 more than 4 thousand students have been studying at the Academy, including more than 2,2 thousand of full-time students. There are 16 persons out of 5 specialities, which are studying at the master’s degree course.
Re-training and advanced studies of specialists is going on in correspondence with the basic lines of training with the licensed volume of 800 persons, annually 450-500 persons pass through advanced studies, and 120-150 leaders and specialists of agricultural enterprises have their retraining courses.
Nowadays there are 9 faculties at the academy: "Accounting and Auditing", "Management", "Mechanization of Agriculture", "Agronomical Faculty", "Zoo-engineering", "Veterinary Medicine", "Part-time Study", "Post-graduate Education", "Foreign Students Training". There are also two technical schools, lyceum, problem-scientific-research laboratories, two training-research farms and some other sub-units.
At the academy there are 33 chairs, 60 percents from which are headed by doctors of sciences, professors, and there are 9 chair subsidiaries, created on the base of scientific-research organizations and progressive farms of region.
Training and material basis of the academy includes 4 training buildings, training and producing workshops, sports complex, vivarium for agricultural animals keeping, veterinary clinics, library, reading rooms. At the academy there are 8 computer rooms, equipped with modern computers, which work into the Internet. Editing and publishing center “Terra” has been organized.
Librarian books fund has more than 318 thousand ones at its disposal. During the training process students use textbooks and training aids, the authors of which are the professors of the academy. These editions have the stamp of the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and were put into practical work of high institutions of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Politics.
Annual number of graduates during last three years makes 500-570 persons, including state order of 450-500, more than 90 percent of them are directed to work at agricultural enterprises of Poltava and Cherkassy regions. As for diplomas’ projects, they are worked out on the example of certain farms. Almost a half of diploma works are recommended by the State Examination Committee to be implemented into production.
The academy graduates obtained honored authority as highly qualified specialists and good organizators of agricultural production.
With the aim of implementation of degree training of specialists, effective use of scientific-educational staff, training and laboratory and productive resources, social infrastructure, organization and advanced studies for lecturers and research workers, arranging of scientific-research co-works and training of research personnel at the academy, there was created the training-scientific-producing complex, which included 6 technical schools and colledges, 5 scientific-research institutions and 2 training-research farms.
The training process is led by the qualified professors-lectures staff (246 persons), among them there are 24 (10%) professors, 135(54,7%) doctors and candidates of sciences. There are 4 academicians working at the academy, 1 Corresponding Member and 11 honored workers of the educational and other areas.
Academy scientists are carrying on research work in different areas of agricultural production: they work out genetic and biological basis of selection of highly productive sorts of winter wheat; create highly productive factory types and specialized lines of agricultural animals on the basis of technological, selective and genetic and biochemical parametres; economical problems of resource and energy usage in agrarian manufacturing complex, biological and agroecological system of husbandry.
During research activity academy scientists created highly productive sorts of winter wheat, which were tested and recommended to be grown in the Ukrainian steppe and forest-steppe.
The academy publishes its scientific journal “Herald of Poltava State Agrarian Academy”.
The educational institution has wide international links with universities, high agricultural schools and farms of Germany, Austria, France, Great Britain and Sweden.
The educational activity reflects the conception of the national upbringing. You can find many sports sections, amateur theatricals, interests clubs among academy activity.
All the students, who are not from Poltava, are provided with hostels. You can have a recreation period in the health centre “Natalka-Poltavka”. To keep yourself fit you can visit academy’s sports-recreative centre.
